This introductory course to Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle is for:

About the course:

Following an Ayurvedic diet does not mean one has to be in India or that one has to eat Indian food or that. Ayurveda is rather a universal principle that can be applied to our food intake and preparation anywhere in the world. Ayurveda treasures food as medicine.

This course is about understanding what is nutrition from an Ayurvedic perspective and how you can apply this science to your life regardless of what culture you come from or what food ingredients you have available.

Dr. Sujatha will explain how you can find the right Ayurvedic nutrition for oneself without falling into generalised concepts and trends we see around us. You will learn how to identify when it is good to be vegan, vegetarian or when to eat animal protein if at all it is needed.

Through her advice and nutritional expertise Dr. Sujatha Kekada encourages you to take nutrition into your hands while understanding the science behind it.

Explore how different kinds of diet affect our constitution and mind. Tuning into food as energy source and knowing how to make this energy available can assist us to live a more balanced life. Most importantly, you will learn how to use food and spices as medicine.

Dr. Sujatha will also cover how to do simple detoxes at home as we learn about fasting and its benefits.

This course is for anyone who wants to be more attuned to their bodies, eat more harmoniously with nature and for their own specific needs.

Course content:

Theory

• Dravya – Guna – Vijnana. Concepts of Rasa (taste), Guna (qualities), Veerya (strength), Vipaka (biotransformation post digestion) and Prabhawa (special effects of substances)

• 6 tastes

• In-depth understanding of Agni (digestive fire) and Ama (toxins or non-metabolized substances)

• Incompatible food combinations

• To snack or not to snack? Eating when we feel hungry

• Times of meals and amounts

• Dahtu (tissue) nourishment

• Dinacharya (daily self-care routines)

• Ritucharya (seasonal routines)

• Fasting/detoxes

• Concept of rejuvenation

• Recipes for meals and tea

Practical

• Cooking class

• A practical session on Shatkriya & Dinacharya practices that have an influence on Agni

Pre-homework:

Read the book “Ayurveda, a Quick Reference Handbook” by Manisha Kshirsagar and Ana Cristina Magno.

In order for our course to take place, we require a minimum of 10 participants.

Usada Bali has the right to cancel within a minimum notice of 7 days prior to the course start date. If Usada Bali must cancel the course, you will receive 100% reimbursement of your payment or alternatively, we can hold your payment for another course.

Participants who cancel 14 days or more prior to the course start date will receive their full payment amount minus a $25 administration fee.

Any participant cancellation within 14 days of the course start date will receive no refund.

Missed a session or want to repeat any session?

Recordings of each session will be made available for participants to watch.

Recordings will be accessible for one (1) month after the course. Will expire on 9th May, 2021.

Course Teachers:

Dr. Sujatha Kekada is the head physician and co-founder of the Amrtasiddhi Ayurvedic Centre in Ubud, Bali. She is a certified Ayurvedic doctor (B.A.M.S), who completed her degree in Karnataka, India. Before coming to Bali in 2004, Dr. Kekada worked as an Ayurvedic Doctor in one of the most respected and successful clinics in Kerala, South India. She has also practiced as Ayurvedic Consultant throughout Europe, Canada and at one of the top Health Retreat Centres in Asia; COMO Shambala Estate. At Amrtasiddhi she mentors Ayurveda students through Internship programs.

Anouk Aoun Wendel has been regularly practicing Yoga since she was 18. She has experienced life in a variety of countries such as South America, Nepal, India and Indonesia. Her cultural and spiritual encounters with these places have added richness to her teachings. Anouk has been teaching Yoga for the last 12 years, in teacher trainings she leads modules of Asana and Pranayama and meditation. Anouk is grateful for the influence of Yoga and Ayurveda in her way of life.
