Galungan & Kuningan
Insight into the Balinese Traditions with Agung Rai of ARMA
Date: Monday, April 12th, 6PM

Galungan and Kuningan are very special days for Balinese people.

Galungan is the celebration of the triumph of Dharma over Adharma, or good over evil. Balinese people believe that on Galungan their ancestors visit the earth and return back to heaven on Kuningan. For 10 days Balinese people are praying and giving offerings to their Gods as symbols for thanksgiving.

During this time the iconic “Penjor” bamboo poles are lining the streets all over Bali.
These intricately decorated poles, naturally curved at the top, are adorned with flowers and common harvest items such as rice, fruits, coconuts and coconut leaves. The men of the households erect their ‘artwork’ at each household gate on the eve of Galungan, resulting in an impressive view throughout all village roads.

At USADA BALI we are honoured to host our friend and fellow patron of Balinese culture Pak Agung Rai. Through a visual presentation and discussion, as a native Ubudian, Pak Agung will offer an intimate look at these exceptional and colorful days of the Balinese culture.

Pak Agung Rai, the founder and owner of ARMA Museum, he has dedicated himself to collecting, studying and preserving Balinese and Indonesian culture.
