Ancient Wisdom, Modern Living, and the Launch of the Usada Supper Club
At Usada, wellness lives at the intersection of practice, culture, and lived experience. This May, we welcome Ayurvedic author Ulli Allmendinger for the launch of her new book The Power of Ayurveda, alongside the introduction of a new experiential series, the Usada Supper Club.
We sat down with Ulli to speak about her journey, her work, and why Ayurveda feels more relevant now than ever.
From Journalism to Ayurveda
Ulli’s path into Ayurveda did not begin in a clinic, but in journalism.
Like many, she arrived at this work through lived experience. During a period of deep personal imbalance, she turned to yoga and Ayurveda as a way to restore her health. What began as a personal exploration quickly became something more.
Through Ayurveda, she developed a deeper understanding of her body, her patterns, and her relationship to health. That experience eventually shaped her transition from observing stories as a journalist to working directly with people in a clinical setting.

Why This Book, Now
The Power of Ayurveda is Ulli’s third book, shaped by over 20 years of clinical experience.
Throughout her work, she has encountered a recurring misconception: that Ayurveda is a rigid, complicated system, or simply “Indian medicine” that does not translate into modern life.

This book responds directly to that. Ulli brings the core principles of Ayurveda into a contemporary context, making them practical, accessible, and relevant to daily living. She focuses on how we can integrate this ancient science into the realities of modern life, without losing its depth.
At its core, the book is about alignment with nature.
Living in Alignment with Nature
One teaching continues to guide Ulli’s work. She recalls a quote passed down through her teacher’s lineage, “You have to live with reality, otherwise reality will come to live with you.”
The message is simple and direct. We can choose to cooperate with natural law, or we can resist it and experience the consequences. We see this most clearly in how we live. Staying up late and disrupt our circadian rhythms. We override natural cycles. We push the body beyond its limits.

Ayurveda offers a different approach. It brings us back into relationship with nature, both internally and externally. It reconnects us to our metabolic rhythms, our environment, and the natural intelligence of the body.
Modern Health Patterns: What She Sees in Practice
Across two decades of clinical work, Ulli observes several recurring patterns.
Digestive disorders remain one of the most common concerns. Modern diets, built around processed and packaged foods, move us further away from how our ancestors once ate, close to the land and in rhythm with the seasons.
Alongside this, she sees a rise in autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. These reflect systems under pressure, struggling to process toxicity and regulate internal balance. Hormonal imbalances, particularly in women, form another major area. Chronic stress, overstimulation, poor sleep, and dietary factors all place strain on the endocrine system. Many women deplete their hormonal reserves over time, forcing the body to prioritize stress hormones over reproductive health.
When menopause arrives, the system often struggles to adapt. What traditional texts describe as a natural transition now presents with symptoms such as mood instability and hot flashes. For Ulli, these are not inevitable, but signs of deeper imbalance.
Women, Men, and Listening to the Body

Ulli notes that women tend to seek support earlier. Around 70 percent of her clients are female. Men, on the other hand, often push through discomfort for longer, seeking help only when symptoms become severe or when encouraged by a partner.
But the advice remains the same for everyone. Listen. Symptoms are not random. They are messages from the body, signals that something is out of balance. Dis-ease, in its simplest form, is the body not at ease.
Responding to those signals is not weakness. It is awareness. It is relationship. When we listen and respond, we give the body the opportunity to restore itself. Ignoring symptoms does not resolve them. It delays the conversation.
The Launch: More Than a Book
On May 21st, Ulli Ayurveda joins Usada to launch The Power of Ayurveda.
This evening also introduces a new Usada series: the Usada Supper Club.
Designed as a multi-sensory experience, the evening moves beyond a traditional book launch. It brings together food, conversation, and performance into a shared environment.
Titled The Dance of the Doshas, the event offers a playful and immersive exploration of Ayurvedic principles. Guests can expect a thoughtfully prepared, plant-based three-course dinner, inspired by the themes of the book, alongside moments of surprise and creative expression.
The evening also creates space to engage directly with Ulli, with opportunities for conversation, reflection, and book signing.
An Invitation

At its essence, Ayurveda invites us back into balance. Not through rigid rules, but through awareness, rhythm, and relationship with the body and the world around us.
This launch marks the beginning of an ongoing series at Usada, where knowledge, experience, and community come together. We look forward to welcoming you.
